I shamelessly ripped this image off an Ebay auction, since I couldn't find a picture of it anywhere else..
But this is a SJB, or a Smart Juction Box. It's actually pretty frikken stupid, as it's about to cost me $700 to have it replaced (this does include taxes and labour, mind you). It all started when I got a phone call from Holly that went something like this:
"Hi hun. The car is saying to check the signal lights. Can you pick up a bulb on the way home?"
Sure, no problem I think - I'll go home, pull the old one out, replace it, and we're done. Right? Nope. Bulb looked fine when I pulled it out, and sure enough, when I put it in the OTHER signal socket, it works.. so it's not the bulb. Put it all back togheter, and now I notice that the right signal light is on perpetually. Even with the key out of the ignition. Even after 15 minutes. Ok, pull the battery, see if we can reset whatever electronics is jacked up. That didn't help.
Pull some fuses, test them, all test good. Poke around on the Internet, and find quite a few forum postings about how this fails in some vehicles, and exhibits similar issues to what I am seeing.
Fast forward to today, when I finally take it into the shop.. and here we are: a shorted out SJB.
Car ownership sucks.
