April 4 - Long Day

April 4 - Long Day

Today is less "Walking through the sands of time" and more "scraping our feet through the gravel of the parking lot".  What do you do when you're 4 though?  It's all about the puddles and stuff on the ground!

There were so many opportunities for pictures today.  Would it be the purple stain on the basement carpet from Lukah yakking after breakfast?  Or maybe the red splatter on the quilt from the gatoraid we were trying to hydrate him with?  It's been one of those days for Holly, and she's been at home with a sick baby.

Thankfully Riley was really helpful for her today, which is why we got to go out and get pizza from Papa Murpheys (you know, the place where you buy it uncooked and take it home?  It's about half the cost as your typical pizza fare, and about the same amount of time.

So today's post is quite late, given the fun we had yesterday.  It's also being written from the LRT, which will be the first time I've used my laptop on the train.  I'm still a little apprehensive about using it - it's not like it's a small laptop, so it's pretty obvious I have this GIANT SILVER DELL ON MY LAP.  I think I'm probably more worried about how I look than the theft opportunity…  I'm pretty sure that's backwards.

Today's (well, Monday's..) network change in the morning went off without much issue.  There were two mistakes made, both on my part - I had assigned an IP address to a host that had already been assigned, and in another case, I set the gateway to be the wrong IP address.  Once both were resolved, everything was working without an issue, and we successfully expanded our IP range to be 2 class C address blocks.  IPv4 address space issues?  Psha!  We've got LOTS of addresses to spare..  Use 'em up!

Tuesday will hopefully be uneventful at home.  I poked my nose in to Lukah's room before I left this morning, and he smelled OK, so hopefully nothing nasty for Holly when she gets up.  I can't go into Lukah's room while he's sleeping yet, since he's such a light sleeper.  I will be able to soon though.

Nothing big on deck at work either - I have one computer upgrade (physical hardware upgrade) scheduled, and I should schedule the remaining Windows 7 conversions.  I also have to get some things sorted out for the new building that we're occupying when it comes to network and phone connectivity.  We're going VOIP, so it should be a fun learning curve.

Until tomorrow, er, later today…
