April 7 - Mmm, dinner.

April 7 - Mmm, dinner.

It's the day before Friday, and that's worth a lot this week: My hopes for a quick week have been completely forgotten, and at this point, I think I'm in complete survival mode.  But it's nearly done, so provided that I can make it just one more day.

What we see here is yummy dinner.  Glorious uncooked beef, nicely grilling on the BBQ.  That isn't covered in any more snow, I might add!  I had been making use of the BBQ all through the winter - it doesn't really get "put away" when it gets cold, but it's a staple in the summer.  Nothing is quite as annoying as having to turn on the oven in the kitchen when it's hot outside, so we defer a lot to the BBQ.  Salmon, chicken, beef, veggies, beef, hot dogs, beef, shrimp, beef, tofu, beef, ribs, beef, potatoes, beef, whole chickens under a brick, beef, and the occasional corn on the cob.  Oh, and sometimes some steak.

It was also nice to see spots of grass show up in my back yard where there was snow yesterday.  The basin that we've been using to catch the water off the roof of the garage mysteriously wasn't full this afternoon.

It's almost like the summer is coming.

Holly and I managed to get out for a quick run up to Save-on (where else ?  Really..), which was really nice to do on dry pavement.  I got out on my own last week, but there was still a good amount of snow and ice and definitely water.  Today we just had to deal with a few rivers of run-off, but otherwise the conditions were a nice change from our St. Patrick's race day.

So as it turns out, I did a bit more damage than expected during the IP space expansion earlier this week.  As I was going from server to server to adjust the netmask, I noticed that a few servers were still getting their IP addresses by DHCP.  So, I statically assign them, and away we go.

What I neglected to do was set the WINS server, which generally doesn't cause any problems, except that our VPN service is hosted and operated by our parent company.  That parent company's system uses WINS to find the authentication services for our domain.  So when the file servers aren't resolvable by the VPN server, people tend to not be able to access their files.

Oops.  That hour was a nice break from doing all the Windows 7 updates that I've today.

So tomorrow is Friday.  I've got a few more Windows 7 computers to do, I hope to be able to get a bit more stuff done on the Intranet.  We'll see.
