Feb 22 - We're here!

Feb 22 - We're here!

Well, after a bit of a long day, we're finally "here", visiting family for a few days.  While I don't really consider this a vacation (which implies away from the family in someplace nice and warm and tropical), it is a vacation from work, which is really overdue.

The picture is of Cousin Thomas, who is one of the many people we came to see on this trip.  He's about the same age as Riley (5 month difference ), so its always nice to get the boys together to play.

The trip itself was somewhat of an adventure.  Lukah wasn't taking too well to the travel, while Riley took it all in stride (knowing that he was going to see his cousin was a bit of a help, I'm sure!).   I had a small issue with a security guard who needed to inspect my laptop, but otherwise it was uneventful.  We had a few minutes to spare before we left, so all that worked out well.

The funniest part of the trip had to have been when Holly gave Lukah a bag of apple chips, that he proceeded to dump all over the table (and floor).  She turns and looks at me, and says the following words:

"Never trust a baby."

Really?  He's not even 2.  I don't trust him.  Trust me on that.

Anyhow, about the vacation from work.

I don't know.  I think I'm starting to get a certain amount of burn out at work.  It's tiring, and lately it just seems that I'm fighting the process more than accomplishing anything really tangible.  The Windows 7 rollout is progressing, but it's not without its issues - XP Mode continues to haunt us with a few oddball applications surfacing as not being x64 compatible, so we're left creating a series of individual Windows XP VMs that we then provision out to users.

Not exactly efficiency, but not much else that can be done about it.  Unless we move everyone off the software that requires the 16 bit subsystem - which won't happen.  The timesheet utility is one of those applications, and we knew from the get-go that it was going to be a problem.

I gather Steve had an interesting day, with people not reading their emails correctly (or perhaps me not explaining things clearly enough), some printer fun, and otherwise fighting the fires that one gets to when you're running solo.  The most I had to do today was submit my timesheets - which I had forgotten to do on Friday.

That's work, and that's not where I'm at for a bit.

Tomorrow - I don't really know what's going on, and I guess it doesn't really matter.  I wouldn't mind scooting out for a run, and I may just do that on my own depending on what time people get up rolling in the morning.  We may catch up with an old coworker while we're here, but that really depends on her and how she's doing more than on us (given that we're not the ones with a fixed schedule).  Lunch with another branch of the family is on deck for Thursday, and after that - I really can't remember.  Oh well?
