Feb 8 - A shortage of admin staff

I generally try to refrain from posting pictures from around the office, but this one needed to be captured.

This is Steve, and he's working on switching a computer belonging to a "touchy" user over to Windows 7.  So instead of the typical backup & wipe operation, he decided to install Windows 7 on a new drive so he could boot back and forth as required.  However, when he got to the office, he couldn't GET to the computer because of all the paper.

We figure that this office wouldn't burn if there was a fire because there would be more fuel available than oxygen, thus starving the fire.

It also helps that next door is the server room with the fancy pants fire suppression system.

Today was yet another mundane day of Windows 7 upgrades and sorting out our computer purchases for the month.  With the Series 6 chipset issues, the "old" series of board have been discontinued, and we're still looking to buy computer…  so we're left having to figure out just what the heck we want to do.

We had a Great West Life "nooner" (lunch time presentation, not what you think..  Perv) today as well.  These things always stress me out - it's like someone is coming into my space and publically reminding me that I should have started saving for retirement when I was 20.

It's not like I wasn't told to save for my retirement at 20, but running a family on a single income, savings isn't the top of my priority pile.  Paying my bills are.  Going to see family is.  Day to day stuff is.

Get Rich Slowly had a nice little article about how to avoid common money mistakes, and for the most part I think I'm doing OK - I'll be leaving my 20s without any credit card debt (I don't count it if I pay it off monthly), and I have been contributing to a pension plan since I've been employed (which a former employer proceeded to take from me when I left before some artificial date..  grr).  I have not sought professional advice, at least, not regularly.  Holly has some contacts at the bank that help with this when we need it.

The problem is when I start looking at the 30s mistakes, and realise that I'm hitting 2 out of 3.  I'm insured - car insurance, house insurance, mortgage insurance, poop insurance, and insurance on the insurance.  I guess we're working on the emergency funds and retirement savings, and I guess I'm not even into my 30s.  It's just hard to look at all this stuff right now and feel confident that I'm going to be able to retire in 35 years and do it comfortably.

Anyhow.  Tomorrow, guess what?  It's more Windows 7 conversions, and fixing a few issues that have cropped up.  I've only got one on the list, so maybe I'll get some work done on some of my other projects.

Hah, yeah right.
