I saw this today as our 14k training run was coming to an end, up sort-of above the Edmonton River Queen, looking out over down-town. Jodi and I had stopped at the top of the hill waiting for the rest of the pace group, and she noticed this.
I don't know how much an event pays the city to shut down streets when there are road events, but there are an awful lot of events that take place on city streets. It's interesting to see just how much the city recognizes amateur athletes and supports them and their activities in the city.
On a related note - today's 14k run was horrible. Took about 2 hours, lots of fluffy snow to run through, and when it wasn't fluffy snow, it was slushy icy cement. Tough run today.
