Tuesday night was another clinic night at the running room, where we talked about cross-training. During the winter, I have a hard time getting in another activity other than running. This is why I wanted to instruct - I'd be forced into a certain level of activity, and hopefully not gain as much weight as I normally would in the winter.
During the clinic, someone asked the question "How do you fit in cross training?", and the only answer was to make time.
Alternatively, you could try to make it part of your routine. For us, that means we run to the store to pick up some stuff for dinner instead of driving. While it's not cross training, it is keeping active in little ways through the colder, un-athelete friendly, months.
I had planned on riding at least once this week. Papa got me a nice new studded tire for my bike, but between the snow and conflicting schedules, it didn't work out, and now the weather is getting cold again... the bike remains parked for a bit longer.
Holly has been talking about doing some rowing in the summer, which I think sounds really great. I find by mid-season, the cycle to work gets a bit boring, so doing something like rowing sounds fantastic.
Too bad I can't row to work.
