July 22 - Rescued for Harry Potter

July 22 - Rescued for Harry Potter

Here be Grandma and Grandpa, rolling up in ther brand new to them car, enabling Holly and I to get out of the house for an evening to go have dinner and see a movie (specifically, Harry Potter part deux).  While we managed to get out of the house generally on time, but the lineup for dinner was 45 minutes long.  Uh, no thanks - not sure I'm going to get to see my show on time.

Instead, we went out and picked up a drink, some contraband snacks, and into the theatre we go.  The line wasn't too big, so Holly got herself setup in line (with about an hour to go before the show started) and I went off to get a popcorn.  By the time I got back, she had already been let into the theatre, so I guess it was good that we didn't wait around for dinner!

So for the next 45 minutes, we spent the time telling people that the seats beside us were taken (by the people next to us).  Because when you come into a theatre, and there's people in the break-neck seats, the two seats mid-theatre are absolutely free.  No one else possibly asked about them.  Right.

Movie was great, though I found it hard to not compare to the books.  For the last 7 movies, I hadn't read the books before going to see the show, so reading the book before seeing part 8 somehow seemed like a spoiler.  I'm glad I did read the book before seeing the movie though, it sure helped to understand the whole story, parts of it were glazed over for the movie.

Comparisons aside, I thought the movie was really well done.  I was glad I didn't see it in 3D, but I expect that parts of it would have been really good in 3D.  I thought that all the "big" parts were captured well, the effects weren't overdone, but were enough to support the movie.  All in all, apart from a crappy dinner for date night, I thought it was a really well done.
