May 15 - Passing of Peanut

Here's Riley, holding a stuffie that I had in my childhood: Peanut, the Gund monkey.  I don't really remember when I got Peanut, but I remember having him for a long, long time.  I remember being upset when the Towns' girls would pull his tail.  I don't remember if my siblings did "mean" things to Peanut, but it's travelled with me for a while (since he's obviously in the house with Riley now).

We have been going through some bins of our old stuff, which is where we found the stuffies.  A bunch of them we decided we could part with, and maybe someone else in need can find comfort in them now.  There were a few of them that we've held on to for sentimental value, but the numbers have greatly diminished.  Peanut has a new lease on life, in Riley's room.

There was a cute web comic that I stumbled across this week called Pants are Overrated, which in the latest two strips depict Calvin and Hobbes, 26 years later.  The strips feature Calvin and Susie, now married, and how Mr. Bun and Hobbes are still alive and well with Bacon, their daughter.  I imagine it hasn't been done with permission, but having read all of Calvin and Hobbes (I think I have, anyways), I found it to be really cute, and a nice reminder of what I found so funny about the strip when I was reading it as a kid.

Anyhow, just thought I would share this.  The rest of the strip is a bit crass, but ya know.

With the dawn tomorrow, a new week comes along.  Also a full 5 day week.  Also a week without much to look forward to (as far as lunch-time events, days off, etc), so we'll see what we can make of it.
