Today I took the day off from work, and instead spent the day with Riley's preschool, and went out to the Valley Zoo in Edmonton. It had been a long time since I'd been to the zoo (so long that I don't really remember when I last went). Any zoo I have been to lately has been in Calgary, which has quite a bit more space to play with than Edmonton.
So, we all went off the zoo, and in typical Riley fashion, the bus ride was a lot more fun than the actual zoo trip. I'm not 100% certain on this, but the excitement of the things we were passing on the bus was higher (and generated more questions) than the rest of the zoo. But that's OK - it's something new and different for him, which is what we really want in the end.
The zoo was nice, although small. We got a guided tour around a portion of the zoo for the morning, stopped and had lunch for a bit, rolled around on the grass for a while, then we were let loose for the afternoon.
The zoo isn't big enough to take up a whole day. Well, it could be if you wanted to stop and read and learn about stuff. Most 4 year olds don't - they want to see animals and ride the train and stuff, so we kind of ran out of things to see. Not to worry though, 4 year olds running out of steam for the day can make fun out of a grassy hill.
So that’s what we did.
On the way back home, Riley fell asleep on my lap on the bus, I picked up my U2 tickets, and otherwise had a very quiet evening watching season 8 of So You Think You Can Dance.
